Isla Mujeres is a casual island.  Bring shorts, tee shirts, bathing suits, cover-ups, sandals, a good waterproof sun block and a hat and sunglasses - especially for children.  From November to March it is a good idea to bring at least one set of warmer clothing and a light jacket for the cool evenings.

If you would care to bring any old or used items from your household (clothing, toys, children’s baseball equipment, etc.) we can always find a family on the island to gratefully accept them.  You can bring the items to the office and the staff will make arrangement for pick up with the person that distributes them.

We have two schools on the island that operate thru the donations of money, paper, crayons, laptops, coloring books, pencils, etc.  Anything that children could use in a school setting is appreciated.  You can drop off donated items at the Nautibeach office and they will be delivered to the schools or you can deliver them yourself while touring the island.  Feel free to contact Friends of La Gloria English School to find out more information at www.folges.org.  Maggie and Tom are great people who give so much of themselves to the local people of Isla Mujeres.

How to Get to "Nautibeach" on Isla Mujeres from the Cancun Airport

Generally it takes about 1˝ hours to reach Nautibeach Condos from your arrival time into the Cancun airport.  For the first time travelers to Mexico:

On the plane, you'll be instructed to fill out a FMT (2-part, tourist visa) as well as a Customs declaration form.  Present the FMT as you pass through Immigration with your passport.  The officer will stamp both parts with the number of days you can stay in Mexico (usually 30 days) and return the 2nd part to you, which you must have to leave Mexico.  If you are traveling with a minor make certain you have proper documentation (ask your agent or airline representative).

Reclaim your luggage and go through Customs where you will offer your declaration form.  You will also be asked to push a button – if the green light flashes it means you can continue on,  if the red light flashes it means they'll search your luggage (usually quite casually unless you look suspicious).

After Customs, you will walk into a large lobby where you can purchase tickets (in pesos or U.S. dollars) for your shuttle or taxi transportation to the Grand Puerto ferry dock.  A taxi, which goes directly to the port, costs approximately $55 U.S. (1 - 4 people) and takes about 20 minutes to get to the ferry dock if they go direct.  If there are more than 4 people it would be better to take a suburban van, which can accommodate 8 people.  The driver will drop off the closest clients first and then take you to the port.

Another way to get to the Grand Puerto dock from the Cancun airport is by making arrangements with Luxury Van Transportation prior to your arrival to Mexico.  Please make the arrangements minimally 4 days before departing for your vacation.  Make sure you receive a confirmation number from them via email.  You can request one way only service or round trip service.  They will need to know the number of people arriving and their names, the airline, the flight number and the flight arrival time.

If you wish to schedule your transportation with Luxury Van Service please email them at luxuryvan@gmail.com.

You will not need to worry about securing a ticket for transportation in the airport lobby if you have a scheduled service with Luxury Van Transportation.  You only need walk to the outside greeting area and the driver will be waiting for you.  He will be holding a Luxury Van Transportation sign with your name on it (hopefully spelled correctly).  If you do not see the sign please ask for them.  (Sometimes, in an effort to avoid congestion at the terminal during peak periods the drivers must wait in a holding area and are radioed as soon as a client asks for them).  They will arrive in about 10 minutes.  The driver will take you directly to the Grand Puerto dock at which time you will pay him in U.S. dollars or pesos (plus an appropriate tip if you would like to do so).  You may wish to also tip the person who met you at the terminal and is also the person who will handle your luggage to the van.  I always bring single dollars which more than covers all of my miscellaneous costs of getting to my final destination.

The money exchanges at the airport offer very poor exchange rates and because you can use U.S. currency to pay for the transportation to Isla, any tips you may give, the ticket for the ferry trip to Isla and tipping Fidel or taking the taxi to the condos., I recommend that you wait until you take a stroll on Isla and then exchange your American dollars for pesos.  The HSBC Bank is open Monday to Saturday.  There are two ATM machines at this bank, one at the 7-11, and another at San Francisco Grocery store.  There are several money exchange booths near the condos.  Traveler's checks and U.S. currency are easily exchanged and credit cards are accepted in many restaurants but not all.  Currency is still the best method of paying for everything.

The express boats go to and from the island every ˝ hour until later at night.  You have the option of sitting inside or outside in the sitting area on the top deck of the boat.  For more information regarding the ferry boats, their schedule, or any questions that you may have - please email the office at Nautibeach.

When you arrive to the ferry dock on Isla Mujeres you can walk the five blocks to Nautibeach Condos or you can take a taxi.  You can also email the office at Nautibeach and request the services of Fidel.  Please refer to your reservation number when you contact the office.  Fidel is a favorite of our guests.  He will greet you and transport your luggage to the condos by placing it into his three wheel bicycle.  His income is solely based on tips from people using his service.

When you arrive to the condos you will check in at the onsite ‘officina’.  Official check-in time is 3 p.m. but we try to have units ready for guests arriving early hence it is helpful to know your ETA into Cancun.  If you arrive after the office is closed the security guard will have your name and will give you the key to your condo.  You can register the following morning at the office.

As of December 31, 2006 Americans traveling by air or sea will need a passport to visit Mexico, Canada and the countries of the Caribbean.  In an effort to stop child abductions and trafficking the government has added requirements for children’s passports.  For more information please call the U.S. National Passport Information Center.
